Behavioral Consultation Compass Care Management offers specialized support to give caregivers positive strategies for coping with the behavioral challenges of dementia and other disabilities.
Caregivers know that dementia may bring more than just forgetfulness. In addition to trouble with memory, a person with dementia may also experience personality change, confusion, agitation, depression, problems with communication, and reluctance toward necessary activities. Sometimes people with developmental disabilities struggle with behavioral difficulties as well. These behaviors can be distressing for the individual as well as their caregivers. Because behavioral challenges can be so stressful for caregivers, they are a frequent reason for a client's move to alternate living arrangements.
As trying as these behaviors may be, there are often ways of making life flow more smoothly for the individual and his or her caregivers. In consultation with family, paid caregivers, and members of the client’s medical team, we help create holistic solutions that support the care recipient. After a thorough behavior assessment, wehelp caregivers structure a gentle, affirming daily routine, based on the unique needs and preferences of the care recipient. We offer specific strategies to reduce difficult behaviors, and provide affirming alternatives.
Memory care support services are available at home, in day programs, and in alternative living arrangements.Consultation for long term care facilities and inservice staff training are available as well.
